The "black box" stereo is a first in the marine industry! It focuses specifically on eliminating the potential problem of water intrusion in a marine stereo. The MBB218 comes with a waterproof faceplate as well as a separate box, functioning as the "brain" of the unit, that can be placed anywhere! This box allows boaters to put it in a water-protected area. In this era of portable media, many boaters are more interested in bringing along their iPod than in using a traditional CD player, so JBL and ProSpec designed the MBB218 with no CD mechanism.
